Hi everyone!

I recently try to improve my connectivity to all my shelly relays. So I played around with positioning the shelly devices inside the wall boxes. I tried to find the right way to install the devices in the wall, by googling around. But seems, that nobody ever tried to find the best way for it. So I have some questions:

* Where can I find the antenna position of the shelly relays?

* Is it the best way to install the devices with screws to the front, so to the switch / or power outlet? Or vice versa?

* Screws to top or to button?

What I tried to do, too, is to have the cables as best as I can away from the Shellies.

So perhaps someone can share his or her best practices, how to install the devices into the wall behind a switch / button or power outlet.

cheers

Andreas

Interesting question and approach to increasing the signal. The antenna is situated at the bottom of the relay. Basically where you see the "Shelly" name, that's where the antenna would be. The main board sits on the back of the plastic enclosure.

When it comes to 2.4GHz there are a few factors at play here but the how the device sits inside the enclosure would not play a massive part here. The main thins is that you have the correct settings installed on the Wifi AP and that there is good coverage with about 10-15m from the device to the AP. Things like type of walls can play a part here when it comes to signal loss.

Would be a interesting experement maybe someone has done this with a spec analyzer would be interesting findings

Thank you for the answer! perhaps someone can share a picture of an opened shelly device and the correct location of the antenna? Just to be sure I understand where the correct position is.

I am testing around on some of my devices, with a bad wifi signal. And as far as I can see the wifi connection is a bit better when the device is placed with the screws to the wall, so the "back" of the Shellies is at the wall switch.

I will now play around with the position of the device in the wall box. I thing best must be, with antenna on the top, because my access points are ceiling mounted.

will let you know, when I have more to share.

Just to give a short feadback after playing around with the position of the devices in the wall boxes.

Yes, it can make a big difference by changing the position if the device within the wall boxes. As for now, I would say, that the best position is that the back of the device is looking to the wifi access point. Also I had seen some improvements by changing the angle of the antenna about 45°-90°. But it is more like trial and error.
