Bluetooth proxy functionality - connect to / send commands to BLE devices?

I'm trying to write a script to connect to (and set the time of) a clock that's only connectable via bluetooth, and while I appear to have the shelly bluetooth proxy functionality set up (sensor readings come through just fine), I can't find anything in the API docs about connecting to a device. Is this functionality available at all with the stock shelly firmware? Or do I need to flash to something else (esphome, I guess?) to accomplish this?
