MQTT in mixed environment with gen1 and gen2 devices

Hi all

I plan to replace twelve 3em by pro versions, with corresponding changes in my software (nodered with aedes MQTT broker), but not all at once.

Question: The documentation says that gen1 devices react to the command "update" on the topic shellies/command whereas gen2 devices react to the command "status_update".

May I safely rely on this in a network with mixed devices connected to the same MQTT broker, i.e. when I send "status_update" I will get responses only from all gen2 devices, and when I send "update" I will get responses only from all gen1 devices?
