Controlling a Carbon Fiber Heating Mat with Shelly Devices

Hello everyone,

I'm exploring the possibility of using Shelly devices to control a carbon fiber heating mat for my bathroom floors. I have two small areas to heat: one is 1.5 m², and the other is 3.5 m². I'm relatively informed about the products but still unsure about selecting the right devices, especially since I'm not an electrician (though a professional will handle the installation for me).

Here's what I'm considering:

  • Temperature Monitoring: I plan to use a DS18B20 sensor embedded in the floor to monitor the temperature. I would like to capture this data with the Shelly Plus Add-On: Shelly Plus Add-On DS18B20.

  • Heating Control: I am uncertain about the best Shelly device to use for controlling the heating mat. I'm considering the Shelly 1 Gen3, but I'm also thinking about the Shelly 1 Plus or possibly another option. I would appreciate any advice on which device is most suitable for controlling a carbon fiber heating mat effectively.

  • Home Assistant Integration: Ultimately, I want to manage everything through Home Assistant.

My Goals and Concerns:

  1. Temperature Control: Can the DS18B20 sensor and Shelly Plus Add-On reliably monitor and maintain the desired floor temperature?

  2. Device Compatibility: What is the best Shelly device for controlling a carbon fiber heating mat? Is the Shelly 1 Gen3 suitable, or would the Shelly 1 Plus or another device be better?

  3. Basic Control Options: I would also like the ability to turn the heating on and off manually within the room. Any recommendations on how to achieve this alongside the automated system?

I appreciate any insights or advice you can offer regarding my setup. Thank you in advance for your help!

Best regards,

Christian
